It takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to produce our Annual Ice Show. All parents are asked to volunteer in some way.

Volunteer opportunities are starting to roll in and there are more coming. If you haven't done so yet, take a look at our signup and see what is right for you. If you have signed up, we thank you and remind you that you can't volunteer too often!

Read on for details . . .

It takes a tremendous amount of volunteer time and effort to produce our Annual Ice Show. The professional staff directs the artistic portion, while parent volunteers coordinate the business and non-artistic portions of the show. All parents are asked to volunteer in some way to make the show possible.

Parents of skaters contracting for ice time completed the Volunteer Interest Form with their School Year Contract. Committee chairs will use that to reach out to parents based on interest indicated on these surveys, however you do not need to wait to be contacted to sign up. This year, Volunteer Opportunities are available in Goggle Docs. There are many ways to get involved. We will list sign-ups and details as information becomes available so check back often and sign up early to get all your required hours in for the year.

The week of the show, Monday, April 18Thursday, April 21, will be our Show Week Dress and Tech Rehearsals. Attendance is required at these rehearsals.

See the Show Week Rehearsal Schedule for the approximate times that your number(s) will rehearse. Show performances are April 2224: Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon.

Monday & Tuesday Rehearsals

All show numbers will rehearse on either Monday or Tuesday. Skaters will wear their costumes for these rehearsals. See the Show Week Rehearsal Schedule for days and times. Please be in costume and skates, prepared to step on the ice, 15 minutes before your scheduled rehearsal time.

Wednesday & Thursday Rehearsals

Wednesday and Thursday night rehearsals are our technical rehearsals. They are our only opportunity to set lights and deal with the technical aspects of the performance. We may need to stop occasionally to work out issues so please be patient. Please be at the rink, in costume, at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time. And, you guessed it, see the Show Week Rehearsal Schedule for approximate reahearsal times.

We will use the hockey locker rooms as dressing rooms beginning on Wednesday during dress rehearsal.

Gym: Learn2Skate groups are assigned to the Rec Center gym. See the Learn2Skate Show Week Information page for details.

Contract skater numbers are assigned to dressing rooms on the east side of the rink. They will enter through the side door at the front (east side) of the building and proceed directly down the stairs to the rink and dressing room areas. If you are dropping skaters off, please use the west entrance behind the gym to avoid traffic congestion (see Rec Center Site Map for location).

Club Locker Rooms: The Girls Locker Room will be used for seniors during the show-week rehearsals and performances. Skaters who normally use this locker room during the regular season, but are not assigned to it for the show, should remove their skates and guards before the Wednesday dress rehearsal and use their assigned dressing room the remainder of the week. The Boy’s Locker Room will be used as the (you guessed it) Boy’s Locker Room during show-week rehearsals and performances.

New information this year
The following section outlines policies required for SafeSport compliance. It’s new and a bit verbose, but we request that you read it carefully so everyone is familiar the new procedures before we get into show week.

Ice Show SafeSport Requirements: We follow practices set forth in policies developed by SafeSport and U.S. Figure Skating. We are required to do this as a member club of U.S. Figure Skating. Below are highlights of these policies. For more details see SafeSport for Contract Skaters, SafeSport for Learn2Skate Skaters or the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport webpage.

  1. We will have locker room and changing area monitors at all times during sanctioned events, which includes our ice show.
  2. No adults (18 or older) are allowed in the youth locker rooms. This includes the locker rooms on the east side of the building and any designated quick change areas but does not include the gym (Learn2Skate area).
  3. SafeSport does allow for exceptions for children under the age of 11 that require additional assistance in the locker room by a parent or guardian of the same sex. If you believe that your skater will require an exception then you can contact the RFSC SafeSport Chair. Anyone with an exception will be issued a badges/lanyard. If you will be in the locker room with your child your lanyard should be clearly visible at all times. Adults with lanyards that have been granted an exception to enter the locker room should limit the time they spend in the locker room to assisting their child and then exiting the locker room. Adults should also make every effort to avoid being the only adult in a youth locker room.
  4. The Learn2Skate Ice Show numbers primarily get ready in the Rec Center Gym. Please bring your Learn2Skate skater to ALL rehearsals and show performances completely dressed in costume. There will be a designated place for each show number for skaters to put skates on and off before and after the performance. Skaters should NOT be getting dressed or undressed in the open gym area. If skaters need a dressing room they should use the rest rooms or ask an ice show volunteer where there is a place to change. If your skater will be getting ready in the Gym you will NOT need an exception lanyard to stay with your child in the Gym.
  5. Only skaters and authorized personel will be allowed in the long hallway leading to the locker rooms or the "skaters starwell" near the southeast corner of the arena. The locker room monitors will not let any adult enter the hallway to the locker rooms without an EXCEPTION lanyard. Since this is a new procedure that none of us are used to, it has the potential to create a fair amount of stress for everyone involved. Please respect the locker room monitors—they are parents just like the rest of us and they are just trying to ensure a) we have safe locker rooms, and b) we follow the SafeSport policies and continue to be able to hold ice shows and competitions.
  6. Adults (coaches, guest skaters and any other adult participating in the show) that are 18 and over will have their own designated locker rooms. This does not include high school skaters who are 18 or will turn 18 during this contract year. If High School skaters who have turned 18 or will turn 18 are part of team they are now required to complete SafeSport training.
  7. As always, there will be a locker room designated for male skaters.
  8. For the Ice Show select RFSC skaters will utilize the RFSC Member locker room. This locker room is to only be used by the current RFSC skaters who have been assigned to the locker room by the Ice Show committee. No other RFSC members, past members, family members, or friends should enter the locker room at any time during the Ice Show. RFSC members who rent a locker will need to remember to remove their skates from their lockers before this locker room is utilized for the show.
  9. Teams also participate in the annual Ice Show and competition and are expected to follow the U.S. Figure Skating Team Locker Room policy. The team coach, team manager, one additional team service personnel and team athletes participating in the ice show are allowed in the Locker rooms/changing area. There should always be two adults in the locker room at all times. No adult is to ever be in the locker room alone with youth skaters.

Important: For safety reasons, parents and skaters will not be allowed to pass through the area between the two ice rinks. If they need access to the other side, they will need to use the catwalk upstairs.

Skater Meals: Meals will be available for skaters who must be at the Rec Center early because their parents are volunteering or for other reasons. The cost is $6 per meal (in advance) and will be available in the consession area on the east side of the building from about 4:30 to 5:15. If you need to be lined up early for opening, please make sure you have your meal early so you are ready. Please see the Skater Meals page for important information and to sign up.

Show Information

Information for Everyone

Reminder: Parents who wish to see any part of the show from the bleachers must purchase a ticket. Monitors will be set up in the gym and the skate change area for those not purchasing tickets.

Special needs seating is available on the west side of the area. See the Special Needs Seating page for information.

  • Entrances to the arena will open one hour before show time.
  • Skater’s badges were distributed on Picture Day. Wear this badge on all show days to get in and to gain access to certain areas of the rink.
  • All skaters in the FIRST HALF OF THE SHOW must report to their dressing room 30 minutes before curtain time. (Learn2Skate skaters: See Learn2Skate Show Week Information page for specific times.) The dressing room assignments are on the doors of each room and will be the same as at the dress rehearsals.
  • All skaters in the SECOND HALF OF THE SHOW must report to their dressing rooms at intermission.
  • Volunteer workers should enter through the east doors, check in downstairs and receive a badge from security.
  • Costumes and Make-up: Skaters provide and apply their own makeup unless told otherwise. When fixing hair do not use bobby pins. If one falls on the ice, it can be very dangerous if a skater skates over it.
  • Skates should be polished, laces clean and tucked in for safety and appearance. Costumes and accessories should be securely fastened. Please wear your skate guards when traveling to and from the ice, but remember to take them off when getting on the ice. There will be a table near the ice to leave guards and jackets, etc. NO CHEWING GUM AT ANY TIME!!!
  • Warm-up Ice on North Rink: Only soloists and freestyle features (duets, high features) may use the north rink to warm up. This does not include grad features.
  • After a skater performs: Skaters who do not wish to stay after they have performed may leave. PARENTS: Please be sure your child is picked up from their dressing room or the gymnasium immediately following the performance of their number.
  • SKATERS: if you think you will have to make a quick costume change between numbers please check with Debbie Colgan .

Locker Rooms

  • Gym: Learn2Skate groups are assigned to the Rec Center gym. See Learn2Skate Show Week Information page for details.

Skaters Seating

  • The skaters’ section will be in the southeast corner of the arena (see Rec Center Site Map for location). If skaters choose not to sit with their families, they may sit together in the skaters’ seating area.
  • There is a seldom used staircase in the southeast corner of the Rec Center. Skaters will use this to access the dressing rooms downstairs. Do not use the main stairs by the east or north doors.

Skater Etiquette:

  • Whenever entering the audience, please remember that those around you have paid for a ticket. Always enter or leave between show numbers (not during a number).
  • Skaters are asked to please refrain from excessive cheering or screaming while the announcer is speaking. Those around you who have paid for their tickets want to be able to hear the announcer.
  • While seated in the audience, skaters should have their costume covered. Spot lights can pick up sparkle on your costume and be distracting to the audience.
  • PLEASE DO NOT RESERVE SEATS by leaving blankets, coats, etc., over empty blocks of seats. If found they will be removed and placed in lost and found. If you want to sit in a specific area, you must stay in those places until show time. No exceptions.

A limited number of pre-assigned seating (blue chairs with backs on the west side of the arena) will be available for audience members with special needs. Since there are only a few of these seats, we request that they be reseved only by those who can’t sit elsewhere.

A signup sheet will be posted in the rink area on Monday, April 4 for you to choose the seats you’d like to reserve.

Sunday’s show usually fills the reserved seating area, so please sign up early. We ask that each skater’s family try to limit the number of reserved seats for Sunday to no more than four if possible. Keep in mind that these reserved seats are not meant to be used for all senior citizens, but should be used at your discretion for those with special needs who find it impossible to sit in a regular seat or have mobility issues using stairs.
